Thomas Boon appointed to lead CDCR technology division

Gov. Gavin Newsom has appointed Thomas Boon as Director of the Division of Enterprise Information Services at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), a leadership role overseeing the department’s technology program, according to an announcement on Tuesday.

Boon, of Fair Oaks, has served as chief information officer at the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development since 2013. Before that, he worked at CDCR as an enterprise technical architect from 2002 to 2013 and as an associate programmer analyst from 1997 to 2001, according to the announcement. He was also a software engineer at the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection from 2001 to 2002.

He replaces Edmond Blagdon, who was appointed in June 2024 as Director of Enterprise Information Systems at CDCR.

The appointment requires Senate confirmation and includes a salary of $214,968.
