Video: ODI Data Demo Day 2026
The California Office of Data and Innovation (ODI) held its second annual Data Demo Day 2026 on August 13, with opening remarks by ODI Director Jeffery Marino and ODI Statewide Chief Data Officer John Ohanian, presenting three demonstration projects showcasing innovative government data solutions.
The first project presented by Monica Bobra, Principal Data Scientist at ODI, and Konrad Franco, Principal Researcher from the California Department of Social Services, demonstrated how ODI helped develop a data-driven approach to detect and prevent Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card-skimming theft, resulting in a major reduction in theft and saving the state millions of dollars.
The second project, presented by Ian Rose, ODI Principal Data Architect, and Dan Lamoree, Director of Data Infrastructure at the California Cradle-to-Career Data System (C2C), showed how they addressed data governance and engineering challenges by modernizing their data system through ODI’s Modern Data Stack Accelerator program, enabling them to process records from more than a dozen data providers.
The third project, presented by Alex Nottbohm from ODI’s CalData team, highlighted the development of a public data minimization toolkit to help state departments appropriately address privacy concerns and data-sharing requests, which has been used across state government.
The hour-long session was moderated by CCGI Co-founder Michael Wilkening.
