State Parks Appoints Rod Wallin as New CIO

Rod Wallin has been appointed as the new Chief Information Officer for the California Department of Parks and Recreation, a department spokesperson confirmed. A veteran technology professional, Wallin brings more than 25 years of experience in the technology industry to his new role.

Throughout his career, Wallin has been involved in formulating, implementing, and evaluating IT initiatives and policies in managerial and executive positions.  According to his bio, his experience includes developing and executing IT, operations, and sales strategies that have contributed to the success of organizations such as PacWest Telecomm, Blackhawk Network, and ProTelesis, where he spent the past four years as VP of Sales and Marketing.

He is an outdoor enthusiast who values the physical, mental, and emotional health benefits of outdoor access.

He replaces Andrea Rohmann, who served as Interim CIO after the departure of Shari Shintaku last year.

Wallin holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from CSU Sacramento and an MBA in Technology Management from the University of Phoenix. Additionally, he has a Project Management Professional certification from the Project Management Institute and previously held an Outdoor Leadership Certification from the Wilderness Education Association.

The mission of the California Department of Parks and Recreation is to “provide for the health, inspiration, and education of the people of California by helping to preserve the state’s extraordinary biological diversity, protecting its most valued natural and cultural resources, and creating opportunities for high-quality outdoor recreation”​
