California State Chief Technology Innovation Officer Rick Klau has stepped down from his position with the state, per his LinkedIn account.

“Last week was my last week at the state of California,” Klau wrote. “Serving as the state’s Chief Technology Innovation Officer for the last 18 months has been a privilege, and I’ll forever be grateful for the opportunity to serve the people of California during a time of such tremendous need.”

Prior to his appointment as Chief Technology Innovation Officer in 2021, Klau spent over 13 years with Google, where he worked various roles including product manager and senior operating partner.

Following his departure from Google, Klau served as an advisor for nearly two years prior to his appointment with the state.

“To everyone who supported me in this chapter of my career: thank you,” Klau wrote. “I don’t have news to share about what’s next – that’s for another day.”
