The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has named department veteran Dave Jenkins its Chief Information Officer. Jenkins assumed his new role earlier this year, following the retirement of his predecessor, Chief April Baxter, in December 2023.

“Chief Jenkins is excited for the opportunity to work with Information Technology and public safety communication professionals and is committed to incorporating innovative technologies to enhance public safety,” said department spokesperson Jaime Coffee in an email.

Jenkins has an extensive background with the CHP, having served the department for 28 years in various capacities. Before his latest promotion, he was the Assistant Chief within the Enforcement and Planning Division, a position he held since 2020.

In his new capacity as CIO, Jenkins oversees the Information Management Division, which includes five commands. His role involves enhancing the CHP’s technological infrastructure, a critical aspect for the law enforcement agency that emphasizes the importance of modernizing its operations and improving communication systems across the state.
