The California Department of Technology (CDT) has launched a new initiative called Project Services Modernization (PSM) to revamp the state’s approach to project planning, procurement, and oversight, according to a blog post.

“The PSM effort is born out of recognizing that traditional processes and methodologies may no longer align with the demands of a fast-paced, technology-driven world,” says the announcement.

The department aims to create a customer-centric environment by incorporating feedback, lessons learned, and best practices from various sources. The PSM effort focuses on a holistic lifecycle approach, adaptive project governance, continuous learning and improvement, and technological integration.

However, challenges such as resistance to change and stakeholder buy-in must be addressed. Ultimately, PSM aims to usher in a more efficient, innovative, and collaborative era for California’s government IT projects, setting an example for evolving with technology.

The department says it will publish more details in the coming weeks.
